Letters and Opinions

These are opinion pieces that I have had published in a variety of newspapers and magazines. I have been writing letters-to-the-editor since 2006, and have had over 160 published since then. I also play guitar and sing in a musical revue called The Loser's Lounge. With a cast of guest singers, we perform tributes to great songwriters and bands. The show is in its 24th year, and we perform at Joe's Pub - The Public Theater and Lincoln Center in New York City.

amNY published this letter on November 5, 2007. My concluding sentence was not included, so read the letter first, and then hop down to this sentence:

We can hold protests to voice our opposition, but New Yorkers should also consider sending a message that these incidents cannot diminish the rewards our multicultural landscape provides.

My letter was presented as part of a "point/counter-point" response to an editorial concerning the role of religious fanaticism in politics. For balance, I include the letter that took a different position than mine. My letter starts with "Beware of leaders..." Metro printed this on October 23, 2007.
